In 1996 Lee Van Horn moved to Alabama. Though Alabama is not normally considered a hikers destination, Lee discovered that in the new growth long leaf pine, a treasure of beauty and diversity was hidden. He documented his treasuries on his web site , Hiking Alabama. Scotty at Galavanting has a website full of Alabama hiking, climbing, Kayaking, Skiing (did you know that ski runs make great hikes in the summer?) and many other outdoor activities. In the State Park area, he has a description of the park and a link to the State Park web site. For example, "Rambling in rural Marengo County, Chickasaw's 520 acres provide improved campsites, hiking trails, a barbecue grilling pavilion, plus other large pavilions, picnic areas perfect for group-size cookouts and gatherings and a wading pool.", from Chickasaw State Park.
