Hiking the Kachina Peaks Wilderness and the highest point in Arizona,— Humphreys Peak

This exhilarating hike to an alititude of 12,633 feet, is a climbing hike filled with contrasts. The lower levels pass through fallen dead timber and bare ground. Climbing higher, you encounter fragile tundra with sparse grasses and wild strawberry plants. Above the tree line, you see the majesty of the series of peaks of the Kachina Peaks Wilderness. There before you stands Kendrick, Bill Williams, Fremont and Agassiz Peaks. This strenuous hike requires water and protective clothing from the wind and cold. There are wind breaks at the summit to rest in and enjoy the view. A rewarding climax for the upward journey.

This hike climbs 3,600 feet in a walking distance of 4.5 miles
