Georgia Hiking Guide

A treasure trove of information for any kind of hiking trip. After brief description of the wonderful major areas available to see in GA some categories are available.

The National Wildlife Refuge list includes Blackbeard's Island. With 5618 acres full of maritime forest, salt marshes, fresh water marshes and beach habitat. The colorful photos and information gets you ready to jump in a boat and get to that island quick before someone else finds the buried gold.

 

 

 

The list for the National Forests, Monuments and Seashores includes in the list several Chattahoochee areas. Long list under Lakes and Reservoirs and the list under State Parks is incredibly long, wow! Lots of choices for hiking in Georgia here.

 

 

 


The Tallulah Gorge Trails

This is an exciting trail. They say it will take your breath away. Hiking over this deep gorge is awe-inspiring, and a little frightening. The river channel is more than two miles long and 1,000 feet deep. The Tallulah River flows through the gorge dropping over 600 ft. and boasts five waterfalls. There are Six hiking trails and many spectacular over-looks. Two of the trails offer access to the gorge The Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center is a 16,000-sq. ft. educational center with cultural, historical and natural exhibits and an award winning film about the gorge is shown twice each hour (free!)

 

Tallulah Gorge is located in the town of Tallulah Falls, GA on Highway 441. The State Park / Interpretive Center's only charge is a $4 per day parking fee, except on Wednesdays (free).
