National Historic Trails - Nez Perce National Historic Trail

Scenic beauty and thoughtful surroundings. This trail memorializes an historic event which took place in 1877 when the Nez Perce indians fled from the US Army along this route trying to reach Canada. In 1986 Congress added the Nez Perce (nee Me Poo) Trail to the National Trails system. This newly added trail system stretched 1,170 miles from Wallowa Lake in Oregon to the Bears paw Battlefield in Chinook Montana.
