Missouri Hiking; The North Fork River and Mark Twain National Forest

Thirteen miles of trails are maintained in the Devil’s Backbone area located within the Willow Springs Ranger district of the Mark Twain National Forest. Over six thousand acres make up the Devils Backbone so there is a lot of room to take a map and make your own trail.

Early settlers in this rugged Ozark region gave the prominent ridge it’s unusual name. Info at this site includes great photos, descriptions of special features in the area and links to all kinds of helpful info including maps.

MISSISSIPPI RIVER TRAIL

The Mississippi River Trail follows the Mississippi River for four hundred miles along back roads through eastern Missouri. The main Mississippi river trail passes the Trail of Tears State Park with its hiking, nature walks and history of the Indians in that area. Other places the main trail passes can be seen at this site.
