EXPLORE NEW MEXICO
Explore
this interesting hiking site before you go hiking in New Mexico. A dynamically
generated map starts you off clicking to your area of interest and finding
trail locations and descriptions along with a list of links to put helpful
info at your disposal. For example, click on Santa Fe and the link brings
up another map with five nearby towns including Los Alamos. Nearby hikes were
listed and linked: Black Canyon, Borrego/Bear Wallow, Falls Trail at Bandelier
National Monument, Hyde Park Circle Trail.
Ten nearby campgrounds were listed and also linked to more info about them.
Also listed were links to six nearby cities.
If you did not want to click on an area on the New Mexico map to what was available,
you could click on the link to Hikes at the top of the links offered on the
left margin of the site in a red out lined box. This link takes you to a full
page with an outline of the major regions of New Mexico and under each region
the major features and under that links to the hiking areas with brief descriptions.
The Central area of New Mexico had by far the most hiking available. Very
nicely arranged, user-friendly outline with links.
Other features included Camping, Plants from our hikes, fire restrictions,
Explore NM, General suggestions form, packing lists and more. My favorite
link so far is one to Plants which are common to New Mexico. This takes you
to links to various kinds of flowers, trees, shrubs etc with photos of each.
A good way to prepare the family for getting the most out of their hiking
excursions.
