Shenandoah National Park - Where
the Mountains Chase the Sky
Plenty
of hiking in the beautiful Shenandoah national park with over five hundred
trails winding among nearly 200,000 acres. The scenic park is located close
to Washington D.C and the Blue Ridge mountains and the historic Appalachian
trail in Luray, Virginia. A favorite get a way offering hikes along clear
rushing streams and numerous waterfalls where you can catch glimpses of wildlife
and birds and see abundant wildflowers in the spring.

area. Rangers at the park conduct interpretive programs at different parts
of the park. You can contact them at the parks visitor center to find out
what programs are avialable or call the phone number this lists. I checked
the photo gallery and the sunset was a winner. There are lots of other links

Virginia State Parks
–James River State Park
James
River State park is one of the newest parks in the state and is more on the
rugged primitive side. It offers nearly twenty miles of hiking trails. It
is located in Buckingham county Virginia. There
are two camping areas, Branch Pond and Canoe Landing. Guided canoe floats
are offered for a stretch of two miles down the scenic historical James River
each weekend from May through September. This site has a long page of information
about what is available at the park for camping and activities. In the left
margin of this photo page is a long list of links to parks and natural areas.

Prince
William Forest Park
There is a map at the top of the page showing Price William Forest Park trail
and campground locations. Insert smaller map shows where in Virginia this
park is located –the top eastern side close to coast. The park is located
32 miles south of Washington D.C. Several streams flow through its 17,000
acres with waterfalls and numerous hiking and biking trails. Links on this
page help with learning more about activities locally and state wide.
