Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation
The
Ice Age Trail is a thousand-mile national and state scenic trail located just
in Wisconsin. The Ice Age Parks and Trail Foundation staff and volunteer members
sponsor this page and work with state and national and local governments to
protect, build and maintain the Ice Age Trail. One of the main goals of the
trail is to tell the story of the ice age and its effect on our continent.
In this web page the foundation aim is to provide a wealth of information
about the Trail and those who take care of it. So here you can find information
for hikers, updates on key issues and how to join up as a member. The link,
Ice Age Trail Information
Center , goes to a page with a nice map of Wisconsin with the Ice Age
Trail marked with a red line and the names the counties labeled that it passes
through. You can select a county in the map and link to more information.
For example,click on Chippewa
county and go to a page with links to photos of that county. It mentions
a major visitor center is situated less than a mile from the Ice Age Trail
in the heart of the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age national Reserve with a modern
exhibit describing the process that created the dead-ice or stagnant ice moraine.
Words in the text are highlighted for further explanation.
An educational button on the main page in the left margin is labeled Trail
Landscape. This takes you to text about the effect of the Ice Age and
a map of the North American continent showing the ice coverage. A link called
A Walk
Through Time: Ice Age Trail Geologic Timeline is interesting. The button
called Download
Centerline Data takes you to everything you need to create your own ice
age trail map. Map buffet – serve yourself the Ice Age Trail map of
your choice by linking to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources web
site where a help page is provided if needed. You can download a copy of the

Devil’s
Lake State Park Visitor’s Guide
This is an enjoyable site to peruse for planning your hiking experiences in
Devil’s Lake State Park. More then a dozen trails are listed with brief
descriptions and their level of difficulty rated and length of time for the
hike going one way. There are photos available of the hiking area. The trails
are not maintained for winter hiking.
To find out water areas are safe for winter use contact the park office. The
trails are marked and vary in difficulty and some have steep climbs and stairways
near bluffs or cliffs. There are links to a printable map and directions available.
In the left margin is a list of links helpful to plan your trip to this Wisconsin
park. I checked the photograph section and came to a page with several dozen
of choices to link to. One of interest I checked was sending a free postcard
from Devil’s Lake. There were dozens of very nice cards to choose from.
Another link at the main page I decided to check was labeled Message Board.
This allows folks to write the web master and ask questions and get a reply.
